Cycling in the Vendée
The
Vendée is the cycling region of France. With hundreds
of kilometres of cycle lanes and a flat landscape, it is the ideal area
for all kinds of cyclists. There are several bicycle routes from our house.
Cycling
in the area of Beauvoir-sur-mer
In the south of Beauvoir-sur-Mer, in the area Pays du Pont d'Yeu,
one has 150 kilometres (over 90 miles) bicycle routes, of which 70km (over
40 miles) is not accessible for cars. There are among other things routes
through the pine forests of la Barre de Monts, or through the marsh area
at Le Perrier. We have these routes available for you.
Ile
d'Yeu 
The
island L'ile d'Yeu is ideal for cycling. There are many bike-rental companies
on the island. We can reserve for you in high season. The island L'ile
d'Yeu is 10 by 4 kilometres (6 by 2.5 miles), therefore one can explore
the whole island by bike in one day. The boats leave from Fromentine,
which is approximately 10 kilometres (6 miles) from our house.
Mountain
biking
For the mountain bikers there are several routes in the dunes
and woods of St-Jean-de-Monts (18 kilometres/11 miles from our house)
and Notre-dame-de-monts (10 kilometres/6 miles from our house).
Velorail
For those who wish to experience a different way of cycling,
there is the Velorail in Commequiers (25 kilometres/18 miles from our
house). Discover the countryside over 10 km/6 mile of former railway line,
travelling in railcars taking 2-5 persons each. You power the railcar
by pedalling, as you would with a “rosalie” or pedal boat.
